Mac Cosmetics's 'Ruby Woo' Lipstick // £15
Marilyn Monroe, Icon and Queen of Hollywood Glamour! For me nothing can beat a fresh, flawless fresh with a statement red lip and by the looks of things I'm not the only one who feels this way. A cult lipstick that is one of Mac Cosmetics' top selling shades was completely adored throughout 2013 and was really pushed to its sell-out limit with Rihanna putting her spin on the shade in her collection. I'm pretty positive that Ruby Woo will continue its popular reign throughout 2014 but is it really worth the hype?

Ruby Woo is a perfect matte shade of red with a opaque blue base that oozes that glamour. The blue undertone enhances your teeth making them really shine rather than making them appear off-colour and dull. (Avoid orange reds for this problem.) The only downside I've found is that the matte effect can be a little drying so be sure to moisturise before application to save yourself in the long run, you'll find if you don't apply a little lip balm before hand that the lipstick will pull a little when applying rather than gliding on smoothly showcasing any tiny bits of dryness on the lip surface.  I personally love the fact that it is a matte shade, this gives you the option of glossing over the top or leaving it in its natural form, 2 lip looks for the price of one.

I'm yet to find a skin tone that doesn't suit the bold colour, it is perfect for a statement lip or even one to wear in the daytime - just team it with dewy skin and minimal effort on the eyes for a classic, clean look. A look that has lasted the test of time and continues to be a popular go to look for a lot of women, why not add a little edge to this face with a deep red lip liner or lipstick in the corners and blend outwards to create an ombre lip making the lip appear not so flat.

What are your thoughts on matte lips or do you need a little gloss?
